Algebra One and Geometry Competition - Results

Eleven students from Julia Landon traveled to Gainesville on Saturday, 1/21/2012, to compete in an Algebra One and Geometry competition. The Algebra One Team, consisting of Ashlie M., Joyce H., Victoria S, and Tanisha M. was ranked 2nd out of 11 teams from Gainesville, Orange Park, Flager-Palm Coast and Jacksonville.

Joyce H received a ranking of 7th and Ashlie M. was ranked #1 among the 43 individual Algebra One competitors.

In the Geometry division, there were 105 individual competitors and 25 teams. The Geometry team achieved a ranking of 6th place overall and that team included Victoria G, Michael B., Nihal K. and Chase W. Victoria G. was ranked 13th. Also representing Julia Landon in the Geometry division were J.C., Mandy H., and Grant V. Congratulations to the teams and to their coach, Mrs. Spiwak. The next competition for these students is on February 4 in Pt Orange.

Reflections Contest

Please join us in Congratulating Grant D. on his Artistic Achievement! Grant was one of our Reflection winners last month whose photograph went on to the county level. The County selected his artwork as an EXCELLENT piece to move on to the STATE Reflection Competition! We are so excited and proud of Grant and want to wish him the best of luck at the state level!

We would like to congratulate both the Boys and Girls basketball teams on their best games of the year. Both teams worked extremely hard, played together, and displayed the type of sportsmanship that makes us proud here at JLCP. The Boys were able to come away with thier first win of the season and the girls fell just short in the closing minutes of the game, but both team represented JLCP in the best of ways. Please be sure to come out and support our basketball teams at our next home game on January the 26th against Twin Lakes. Go Lions!

The Lady Lions Soccer Team beat the DuPont Dragons 8-0 last night. The win was made possible by excellent team work and the willingness of every player to put in 110%, no matter position they were playing.

Goals were made by Lianne M., Erica G., Stephanie P. (off a direct kick), Emily W., Jilia S., Mandy M., Jenna L., and Rachel F.

Congratulations Lady Lions! Be sure to come out and support the Boys Soccer team as they take on the DuPont Dragrons at 5 p.m.

Congratulations to the Boys and Girls soccer teams who beat Fletcher Middle School last night.

The girls played first, winning their game 5-1. Goals were made by Lianne M, Katie L. and Madison M. The amazing defensive show by Erica G, Julia S, Stephanie P, Kelly L. and Mandy M. posed a challenge for the Fletcher girls, only allowing them to score one goal against the Lady Lions!

The boys finished out the night with a 6-1 win. Goals were scored by Jacob V, Tanner B. (who pulled a hat trick) and Premton H, who rounded out the game with a header straight into the goal. The Lions defensive team consisting of Logan Y, Sam V, Trey C, Caleb G. and JC also posed a challenge for the Fletcher Boys team. Allowing them to finish out the night with a five goal lead.

This past Saturday JLCP hosted the annual Math Field Day competition. There were 20 teams competing for the title of Math Field Day Champions. JLCP placed first by a landslide of 20 points. This is the second year in a row that we have been victorious.

If you would like tickets to the January 2nd game here in Jacksonville, please bring $30 cash for each ticket to Mrs. Spiwak in Room 211. The deadline for purchasing these tickets is November 4. After November 4, the ticket price is $90 and you cannot purchase them through the school. Remember, the deadline is November 4. See your Math teacher for more information. This will allow several students with excellent leadership skills and world interest to attend and compete against other Middle Schools in the State of Florida Model UN Meeting in Tallahassee during the month of Feb. JLCP has been assigned to represent the countries of Sweden,Norway and Costa Rica at the meeting. Please come on Tuesday 11,2011 at 2:15 in Mrs. Hayden's room 309. You must have a ride home by 3:30. We will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.

Here is how you can participate: - Join one of our walking buses - Join a bike train - Or, if you live too far to walk or ride, have your carpool drop you off at one of the designated drop off locations, then walk with your friends to school. Never assume that a driver will see you.9/27/11 Always wear a helmet when riding a bike. Helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. If you're under 16, it's the law.9/28/11 When riding your bicycle on the road, you are considered a vehicle and must follow the same rules as cars. This means ride in the same direction as traffic. You may ride on the sidewalk in either direction, but must yield to pedestrians.9/29/11 Cross a street at an intersection whenever possible. 4th Annual College Trip

4th Annual College Trip (open to 7th and 8th graders)We are planning our fourth annual educational college tour field trip. This year the three colleges we are going to tour are University of Virginia, University of Maryland, and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. We will also be making stops at Monticello, Newseum, Holocaust Museum, Capitol Building, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and night tours of the Memorials (Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean, World War II, FDR, MLK and Jefferson.) The date for this trip is January 31st – February 4th and the cost is $679.00 per student quad occupancy. This price includes transportation, hotel (2 days), admission fees, and meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner Feb. 1st – Feb. 3rd). To reserve a spot for your child a $ 200.00 deposit is due on or one week before Tuesday, September 27th, 2011. The remaining payment is as follows: $240.00 due – Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 $239.00 due – Tuesday, November 29th, 2011If you would like your child to receive a packet of information and forms, please see Mrs. Long, room 176.
